How to Get Free Food on Your Birthday in Pittsburgh

00:00:00

It’s my birthday week! If you’re a regular podcast listener, you know I love little treats, so my birthday is the perfect time to go all out. But these goodies are extra special when you can get them discounted or free — so sign up for these mailing lists before your big day to get meals and desserts on the house.

Signing up for Jeni’s rewards program gets you a free scoop of ice cream for your birthday. Even if your birthday isn’t coming up soon, it’s worth the trip to Jeni’s in Bakery Square or Southside Works to try the limited-edition eclipse flavors.

Cake is an essential part of the birthday experience, and if you want one all to yourself, sign up for Nothing Bundt Cake’s eClub to get a free mini bundt cake. There’s also a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie cake!

Anyone on Burgatory’s mailing list gets a free milkshake on their birthday, and Burgatory even has recommendations for those looking to celebrate and spike their shake. If you’re vegan or lactose intolerant, Burgatory has soy-based milkshakes too.

The big Burrito Restaurant Group includes Alta Via, Alta Via Pizzeria, Casbah, Eleven, Kaya, Mad Mex, Soba, and Umi, and signing up for the group’s email list gets you an entrée up to $30 in value for free.

There are a few restrictions – the offer isn’t valid at Umi, you need to dine in a restaurant, and you can’t use the promotion on Fridays or Saturdays. Plus, remember to bring your photo ID! I think I’ll spend my birthday noshing on some paella from Kaya!

Mad Mex may be a part of the big Burrito Group, but you can get a free burrito if you join a separate mailing list. The same conditions apply.

More Discounts!

Signing up for Primanti’s loyalty program will get you a $5 discount off a sandwich on your birthday in addition to getting $5 off every time you spend $50.

You may have heard on the pod that Hello Bistro does a free meal… but it looks like that info might be out of date! I got an email with an offer for $3 off a $10 purchase, and if you still decide to grab a bowl, my recommendation is the chimichurri bowl.

If you haven’t gotten enough sweets yet, then Bruster’s has you covered with a $3 off coupon when you sign up for Bruster’s Sweet Rewards. Host Megan Harris also recommends checking Bruster’s website for more deals – like half off your banana split on Thursdays when you bring your own banana.
