What do you do during that weird, liminal space between Christmas and the New Year? Apparently it’s called Twixmas — and it's a time to do anything you want or nothing at all. It’s also a moment for reflection and slow breaths after the rush of the holidays (while simultaneously hyping yourself up to ring in the year ahead).

If you’re not sure how to make the most of the last week of 2023, the whole City Cast Pittsburgh team is sharing their tips on the podcast all week long.

Host Megan Harris

“I’ll be tackling a few home improvement projects, writing a paper for grad school (lol), and taking in all the twinkly lights I can with my 1 year old, plus his grandparents who recently moved to Pittsburgh. Might even nap once or twice. ‘Tis the damn season, yinz.”

🍕 Megan’s tips are scattered through the week, but check out one of her favorite cozy episodes from 2023. And fair warning — it might make you take an impromptu trip down to Lawrenceville!

Interim Executive Producer Marylee Williams

“I’ll be out and about in the city exploring some of the bike trails and hiking in our beautiful city! I know going out in the cold might seem treacherous, but you just need the right layers: a good base layer, down, and then something to keep ya dry!”

❄️ Don’t go outside this week without hearing Marylee’s tips for winter hikes and biking – she knows all the best spots!

Producer Sophia Lo

“I’m spending the winter cozying up inside, and you can find me browsing local bookstores and stocking up on fun warm beverages. Of course, I need some cookies for my reading sessions, so I’ll be spending lots of time baking. Bonus points for the oven also warming up the home!”

📖 Tune in Wednesday to hear Sophia’s favorite book stores, recipes, and what Pittsburgh event they don’t want to miss in 2024.

Roving Producer Elizabeth Kauma

“We’ve got a few more months of miserable, gray, cold weather to get through, so I’m trying to beat the winter blues with ski season, crafting, and making a few surprise gifts for the City Cast Pittsburgh team.”

🧶 Listen to the podcast Thursday for Elizabeth’s favorite craft supply stores in Pittsburgh and where you can spot her on the slopes.

Senior Newsletter Editor Francesca Dabecco

“I like to spend this week redding up the house so I can enter the new year uncluttered! Listen to tomorrow’s episode to hear where I’m getting sustainable cleaning products, places to take donations, what local candles I’m burning, and the Pittsburgh pages I’m turning. Plus, I have some tips for cooking with local ingredients in the new year.”

🕯️ Head to our website (or wherever you get your podcasts) Friday to hear from me, one last time in 2023!
