How To Plan the Perfect Pittsburgh Camping Trip

00:00:00

⛺ Want to go camping but don’t know where to pitch your tent? The City Cast Pittsburgh team has you covered! We talked to Marcus Shoffner, founder of the Outdoor Inclusion Coalition, about where to go, what to bring, and how to have the best experience. Here are a few of his favorite spots:

📍 Moraine State Park, Portersville

About an hour north of the city, Moraine is a great choice for travelers who love being near a lake. Cabins are available for rent in the park year-round. While tent camping is not allowed in the park, you can stay at a campsite nearby.

📍 Ohiopyle State Park, Ohiopyle

This state park is a recreational playground. About an hour and a half from the city, Ohiopyle offers whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, biking, watching wildlife, and more. The Kentuck Campground is open from April to mid-December.

📍 Tall Oaks Campground, Farmington

Just down the road from Ohiopyle, this privately owned campground has tons of options, from traditional tent sites and large fields for groups to spots for RVs, vans, and even electric vehicles. Situated in the Laurel Highlands, this campground has great amenities, including shower facilities, a disc golf course, and more.

Visit a national park just two hours from Pittsburgh. Look for trails, events, dining, lodging, plus attractions in nearby Cleveland. Camping is not permitted in the park, but you can choose from various nearby campgrounds.

Tip: The Outdoor Inclusion Coalition's summer camps are in progress, and they're still taking reservations for upcoming adventures.
