Watch The Eclipse

You better order your glasses now! The April 8 total solar eclipse — which will send a swath of the U.S. into sudden twilight — will be the “single largest event of our lifetime,” and best viewed in Erie County. In Pittsburgh, we will be able to see a partial eclipse starting at 2 p.m., with the maximum eclipse view at 3:17 p.m.

Celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event on the rooftop of Hotel Monaco (with an eclipse-themed cocktail), at the Allegheny Observatory in Riverview Park, at the Eclipse Extravaganza at the Carnegie Science Center, or at Space Bar in Market Square.

Celebrate National Poetry Month

Carnegie Library has a handy list of poets whose work is informed by Pittsburgh: “Whether the influence is obvious or more subtle, the crucial worlds that they spin with their words have the power to evoke these landscapes we live in every day.”

Admire local poets or write words with rhythm at these upcoming events:

Bonus! April 7-13 is National Library Week. Find activities at your local branch, plus fun free things you can get with your library card.
