Your Daily Guide

It’s a hard day for me, neighbor.

While this newsletter will be back in your inbox on Monday, it won't be from me. This will be my last newsletter to you, my dear readers in the 412. It’s been my greatest joy to help you understand and connect with the city we all love, and I’ll surely miss landing in your inbox every weekday. But don’t worry — again, the newsletter will still be here, and the team will have you covered!

I was hired to launch this newsletter with my colleagues at City Cast Pittsburgh in January of 2022. Since then, I’ve sent over 1,000 emails packed with news you need to know, the best events in town, neighborhood guides, and delightful tips and tidbits for living your best life in the Burgh.

What a dream it's been! I've been reporting in this city for nearly 10 years, and I'm so grateful that many of you have joined me in that journey 🥹

For one last time together, let’s dig into what Pittsburgh’s talking about ⬇️

New Entertainment Spot Coming To North Shore

Mic Drop will feature a robust craft cocktail program, “bandeoke,” dueling pianos, live performances, and curated DJ experiences. The new nightlife spot is created by Legacy Hospitality Partners, which also runs the nearby Shorty’s, SugarBird, and soon-to-open Highball Social Club. [Legacy]

Bridge Demo & Replacement To Be Livestreamed

PennDOT will use hundreds of explosives to demolish the Commercial Street Bridge then slide a new bridge into its place — and you can watch the whole thing on a livestream. The agency hasn't set a date and time for the explosion, but the Parkway East closes tonight at 9 p.m. and will be shut down for 25 days. [Commonwealth of PA / TribLive]

Thousands of Pennsylvanians Lose SNAP

Since the passage of "One Big Beautiful Bill Act” a year ago, PA’s SNAP enrollment has dropped by about 11%. Roughly 98,000 people have lost food assistance because of new federal eligibility and work requirements. Anti-hunger advocates worry additional changes under the bill, which have yet to take effect, could also lead to more food insecurity. [Public Source]

Come Play Outside The Lines At Woodward

Woodward PA is the ultimate overnight summer camp for action sports & creatives: skateboard, scooter, BMX, mountain bike, parkour, BMX race, creative arts, and roller skate. The goal isn’t to keep kids busy. It’s to give them the kind of space where imagination turns into motion. These camps are a high-energy playground for kids and teens (ages 7-17) who want to ride, create, have fun, and level up. Code CITYCAST for $300 off!
