July is about to be dill-icious. With all of the Picklesburgh festivities July 16-19, some local businesses are getting in on the fun. For one thing, Pigeon Bagel’s flavor of the month is a pickle bagel 🥒🥯

Reader Ashley J. wrote in to give her recommendation: “They are SO GOOD. It is a bagel coated with dill pickle seasoning and the flavor is just right — not too overpowering. I got it with the plain schmear, but I think it would also be really great with their herb schmear.”

Tune in to today’s podcast to hear where else you can get a good bagel in the Burgh.

What Pittsburgh's Talking About

High-Injury Traffic Sites Targeted for Improvement

The city, county, and local transit organizations are partnering to improve pedestrian safety at some of the region's most dangerous traffic corridors. The group will apply for grants to overhaul problem areas, such as Kennywood Boulevard in West Mifflin, Fifth Avenue in Oakland, Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield, and Penn Avenue in Point Breeze. ‘Giant Eagle’ Name Isn’t Going Away

Kroger is acquiring the local grocery chain for $1.65 billion, but much of what we see as customers will remain the same. The grocery plans to keep the Giant Eagle brand for its markets and pharmacies, as well as the Cranberry headquarters and myPerks loyalty program. [WESA]

QBurgh Launches Monthly Newspaper

The free print paper features LGBTQ+ news, arts and culture, politics, and events. You can find the first edition this week at Carnegie Library branches, select Giant Eagle and Shop ‘n Save locations, and queer-friendly businesses. Or, starting in August, you can get it delivered straight to your door. [QBurgh]

Powerboat Racing Will Return To Pittsburgh

Formula One Powerboat racing is coming back to our rivers in July 2027 after a years-long absence. The free event will feature high-speed championship races, family-friendly activities, and a drone show. Organizers hope it’ll boost tourism and bring back the excitement of Pittsburgh's former Three Rivers Regatta. [KDKA]

Spot this mural of the Gulf Tower on Penn Avenue between Downtown and the Strip District — just a hop, skip, and a jump from the actual building on Grant Street.

Fun fact: My first job was on the 37th floor of this iconic 44-story skyscraper. I worked in the marketing and communications department for the local Make-A-Wish chapter. The views were stellar, and we even had peregrine falcons nesting right outside our window! Today, this Art Deco tower is being converted into a luxury hotel and apartment building.
