What Pittsburgh's Talking About

Old Terminal To Become Filming Location

The Pittsburgh Film Office is rebranding the old PIT terminal as a filming set for television and movies called “Terminal P.” Officials say the space’s 440,000-square-foot footprint makes it ideal for multiple sets, and “logistics couldn’t be simpler” with new direct flights from L.A. to Pittsburgh. Check out promo videos from figures like Gov. Josh Shapiro and Pittsburgh-born actor Billy Porter. [TribLive / Terminal P]

Airbnbs See Low Demand Ahead of Draft

Only about half of Pittsburgh's Airbnb listings are currently booked ahead of the NFL Draft next week — a surprising stat as the city expects hundreds of thousands of visitors. Some hosts are lowering their prices, but the average nightly rate for April 25 is still four to five times higher than the same date last year. [Post-Gazette]

Emails Show ICE Targeted People at Courthouses

Federal agents sought to arrest at least 46 “targets” at Downtown courthouses last year, according to emails ICE sent to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s office. The messages included people's names, countries of origin, and the expected times and locations of their court procedures. The sheriff's office maintains that it doesn't cooperate with ICE, but asks to be notified when federal agents plan to be in a court facility.

  • The county’s interim chief public defender says ICE has been “seizing victims and witnesses of crimes who were summoned to court,” which deters people from seeking police and legal assistance. [Public Source]
  • County Council introduced legislation that would make it illegal for local, state, or federal law enforcement to wear masks or conceal their identity while on the job. [Post-Gazette]

New Nightlife Spot Coming to Downtown

Black Brew House is expected to open on Forbes Avenue April 22, right in time for NFL Draft festivities. It’s a collaboration between TLC Libations (the state's first Black woman-owned craft distillery) and Windy Bridges Brew (the city's first Black-owned brewery). The space is opening as part of a pop-up program to fill empty storefronts Downtown, and will serve drinks from Black entrepreneurs throughout PA. [Pittsburgh Magazine / City Cast Pittsburgh]
